Costa Rica: 2024
Some of you may already know… Last year, we made the bold decision to move from the Netherlands to Costa Rica, feeling it was time to honor the dreams and desires rooted deeply in our hearts. In this post, I’m opening up about more of our journey—read until the end to see some exclusive pictures and videos from our Costa Rica adventure last year.

We’re dreaming of creating a peaceful sanctuary in nature—to ground, heal, and enjoy life the way we feel it’s meant to be. And because we’re also building a small community with cozy cabins, you’ll be able to stay with us—whether for a spiritual retreat or simply to enjoy a soulful holiday in the breathtaking nature of Costa Rica!

Exploring Costa Rica
In the summer of 2024, I traveled to Costa Rica with my family. Before making any final decision, we felt called to experience the country with our own hearts. The adventure was unforgettable, filled with both challenge and wonder. After traveling for more than 24 hours, we finally arrived at San José Airport. In that very moment, I just knew: this land is meant to be my home.
Late that evening, we arrived at our hotel, weary but excited. The next day, we picked up our rental car, gathered some essential groceries, and began the journey to our first cabin—deep in the heart of the rainforest. The trip, however, had its own plans. Lost in the jungle under the cloak of night, what was meant to be a three-hour drive stretched into more than seven hours, turning our adventure into a true test of patience and spirit.
We arrived at 4 in the morning. The kids had slept so long in the car that they were wide awake—so much for our rest! Completely overtired, like two wandering zombies, we pushed through the day—but the surroundings were breathtaking! Lush greenery everywhere, flowers all around, and we even saw wild toucans, monkeys, and beautiful butterflies in the garden!
The rest of our trip was amazing! We visited several places, saw many plots of land for sale, toured schools, swam in thermal baths, and of course, relaxed a lot on different beaches with the kids. Besides multiple waterfalls and a volcano, we also saw an incredible amount of wildlife in nature—different kinds of monkeys, parrots, crocodiles, butterflies, fish, large iguanas, hummingbirds, toucans, and many other tropical birds. The wondrous nature here is one of our biggest reasons for wanting to live in Costa Rica.
Preparing the Shift
We actually made the decision while we were still there. Once we returned home, we allowed ourselves time to let it all settle—and the inner pull to move to Costa Rica only grew stronger. Step by step, we began preparing.

Focusing on my vision kept me going.
The sale of our house went quickly — a home we deeply loved and where we lived joyfully for eight years. It was the first house we bought together. We feel grateful for the smooth collaboration with the new owners and could feel the favor of the universe and the gentle push to keep following our dream.

Emptying my temple felt the heaviest.
It took two months to empty the house. It was heavy, with two little wildlings who also needed a lot of attention. My husband and I often felt exhausted. Letting go wasn’t easy either. Emptying the house made me emotional many times — it wasn’t just about getting rid of personal things. It was the first home where I truly felt at home, and not knowing where I would go next — where I would live — often scared me. Yet, deep inside, we both knew we had to follow this path, and so we did. Stepping into the unknown…
We stayed at my parents’ house for a six weeks to take care of the last things before the big move. I feel deeply grateful for the chance to spend so much time with them ahead of leaving. The kids also loved being close to their grandparents for a while, and now, about a year later, we find ourselves back in Costa Rica, searching for the place that feels truly meant for us.
I’ll share more about that in my next post. Scroll down to see the pictures and videos from our 2024 trip to Costa Rica. Scroll down a bit more to leave a reply as well!
Love you, soul family!
